Painting Beautiful Skin Tones a must for the portrait painter August 18, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is excellent. Well written, easy to follow. An abundance of information. Good color information and color wheels. I refer to this book in the planning stage of each portrait.
Saper's Book is a MUST HAVE! March 25, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Painting Beautiful Skin tones with Color & Light has been my constant companion since its purchase. Ms. Saper's book has guided me from my "rookie" year up to the present and I continue to learn from it. It delivers its promise of teaching its readers how to paint beautiful skin tones.
Having had the privilege of seeing some of Chris Saper's portraits first hand, there is no question as to her level of expertise. Viewing the luminosity in the skin tones of her paintings, one can clearly see how often she works directly from life. It is no wonder that John Howard Sanden has selected her to contribute to his internet site called "World of Portrait Painting". Her writing is clear, direct and informative, driving right to the core of what it takes to reach excellence in portraiture.
Chris Saper's Painting Beautiful Skin Tones is an absolute MUST for every single person who seeks to paint beautiful portraits. She exemplifies the consummate professional as she is a teacher's teacher as well as an artist's artist.
I give this book 5 stars!!!!! November 30, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The theory on source lighting and shadows is invaluable. I also liked how she would start with two colors: the lightest color and the darkest color, then mix the shades inbetween before even starting the painting. Just understanding these processes has made a great leap in my paintings!
Only thing negative that I can say about the book is that there weren't more step-by-step paintings to follow!
Loved this book! May 13, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the best book on portraiture and color I have ever read. The author writes clearly and is extremely organized in her presentation of information on color temperature and interpreting photographs successfully. Saper's colorful, lively portraits are inspirational, and illustrate her point effectively. Highly recommended!
Wonderful book if your just starting out in portraints!!! February 26, 2005 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It gives you the basics in oil pastel and water color. I love her art style as well. It has a slight impressionist twing to it. It covers different skin colors in different mediums. This is not really a book for the andvanced. I think it would be a great book for a teenager or even adult beginning in art. I really do love this book this is what I started out with. Highly recommended.
