Miles above the rest! Best one yet! October 22, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been painting for enjoyment for many years. I started dabbling in watercolors three years ago. My daughter bought me this book and I found it to be the best one I have ever used! It shows, in detail, how to create effects. The instructions are crystal clear and the results achieved are rewarding!
Very pleased to review this book August 20, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
One of the best and most comprehensive books about the very many techniques to be learned about watercolor painting. This is the very best book on water color I have in my collection. As a fairly well experienced painter in this medium, I must say that I picked up much information that I had no previous knowledge about. It's unusual that such a comprehensive art book such as this commands such a reasonabley low sales price.
A Big Help July 16, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book was great. Clearly based on years of experience and teaching, it contained valuable fundamental information -particularly on painting landscapes. I only wish he had more information on handling the paint and mixing colors. This is a very good book for beginners.
The Watercolorist's Essential Notebook March 1, 2003 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
A very gifted watercolor artist, Gordon MacKenzie's talents as a teacher really come through in his book. He has saved the watercolor artist from many pitfalls, with his in depth guide to paint characteristics and qualities of different paints by brand. The book contains many helpful tips on techniques, as well as "how to" lessons. The Watercolorist's Essential Notebook contains many examples of Mr. MacKenzie's own work.
A great basic book!!! September 24, 2002 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This book is a essential collection of tricks and techniques, you will not find complicated and very advanced techniques. It will not teach you how to paint with watercolor, but it will help you on the way. The book is beautifully illustrated with some of the author's works and besides the tricks and painting techniques there are also lots of explanations on composition, colors and color composition and tools (how to choose your brushes, paper, palettes, paints, etc.) There are several exercises and some watercolor problems and solutions. It's a basic book for any watercolorist, with some tricks that one could only learn with the experience of years painting. This is the notebook I wish I had when I was learning to paint.
