Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
A long-time favorite for sketching, charcoal is also a very expressive medium. This book teaches both the basic techniques of drawing and how to develop an "artist's eye"--to see the essential elements and ignore the superfluous details. And because the projects advance from simple to complex, there is something for artists at every skill level.

o Find a list of the materials needed, from paper and charcoal to erasers and fixative

o Learn the language of charcoal: the textures, lines, strokes, and tones that turn shapes into forms and forms into compositions

o Develop a drawing from the beginning sketch to the final touches

o Follow along, step by step, to create renderings of birds and animals, landscapes, architecture, still lifes, faces, and figures

I was really pleasantly surprised by this book. I have a LOT of art books, but this one is one of the best I own now. The drawings are beautiful and the instruction is very clear and easy to follow. I bought this as a gift for a friend but ended up ordering another copy for myself.
