1 out of 5 stars This book is a poor investment in time and money   January 1, 2009

Review about Mastering Autodesk Inventor 2009 By Curtis Waguespack.
The book is supposed to come with a DVD, but it doesn't. The examples in the book reference the DVD, which makes most of the examples worthless without the DVD.
The book has more information about general concepts then detailed information about how to create projects and objects in Inventor. As we all know the devil is in the details. The general concept information is great for a salesman but of little value for the person using Inventor. I wish there was a good detailed book about high end Inventor use. This is not that book. Writing a good Inventor book is a good opportunity for someone.

I have been using Autodesk Inventor for 7 years and with this evolving software there is always something new and different. This book does a wonderful job at walking the reader through all the menu options. I have used the section on documentation mostly and learned how to do things that I was never taught in any class. Thanks to the authors for taking their time to help us users out.

Having been through the basic Inventor training classes a year ago I have some books covering the newbie stuff and was looking for something to help with other tools. This book covers many things that aren't in the other books and aren't easliy found online. Some of the chapters are better than others, but I've already found a lot of useful information. I liked the price too.

I bought this one and Introducing Autodesk Inventor 2009 and Autodesk Inventor LT 2009, and find them to compliment each other well. I was concerned that they would just cover all the same info, but am happy with them both.

5 out of 5 stars A good reference book that goes beyond the basics   October 14, 2008

As the previous reviewer points out, this is not a book for those who are new to Inventor. I originally bought this book to help my new engineer, but quickly realized that the intended reader is someone with some Inventor time under their belt.

In going through it for my own benefit as an experienced user, I'm pleased to have found a reference for the Inventor tools I don't use all the time. It's certainly not a good book for the beginner, but if you've used Inventor for a while and have the basics down, then this book has some hard to find information in it. The chapters on large assemblies, the design accelerator wizards, and weldments will all be a big help.

I picked up a lot of things from just flipping through the tips from Sean Dotson that are sprinkled throughout all of the chapters as well. These tell you things about how stuff really works from a user's point of view. There is also a chapter called Inventor Tools Overview, that has information explaining several utilities and functions that I wish I'd known about last year.

If you're looking for a book to learn the basics this is a poor choice, but if you're looking for a reference that goes beyond the basics you'll want this on your shelf.
