Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Part I of the Scene Painting Video Series, titled "Preparing the Surface", covers the very important first steps in painting scenery. This video reviews muslin and flats, explaining the parts of a flat and how to cover a flat with muslin. Ms. Poppe demonstrates how to mix primer and use the traditional crosshatch motion to apply primer and base coat. She also shows how to do wet blending with 3 colors of paint to achieve effects such as natural sky background, and scumbling to create color texture. She demonstrates how to work from a drawing, picture, or photo to transfer it to a full size flat in scale, creating 1" to 1' grids, and using snap lines, charcoal, and marker to transfer the detailed drawing. Also covered are techniques to flame treat flats and cut costs by diluting paints.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Tool for the Theatre Teacher   September 3, 2007
I found this video extremely helpful in teaching set painting to my high school students in stage design class and with students painting sets for plays. It can be used with the whole class, individually, or with small groups before they begin the hands on activities themselves. The host demonstrates the techniques with clarity and professionalism. I highly recommend it!Fundamentals of Scenic DesignIllustrated Theatre Production GuideTheatrical Design and Production: An Introduction to Scene Design and Construction, Lighting, Sound, Costume, and MakeupScene Design and Stage Lighting (with InfoTrac )The Perfect Stage Crew: The Compleat Technical Guide for High School, College, and Community TheaterTechnical Design Solutions for Theatre (The Technical Brief Collection, Volume 2) (The Technical Brief Collection)
