5 out of 5 stars Inspiration for the Artist   July 24, 2008
Rachel Rubin Wolf puts together another exciting and stimulating collection of recent watercolor works and the artists.
Not a how to paint with watercolor book, rather each artist tells about how they achieved the painting, what inspired them, perhaps an obstacle they had to work around.
Some of the works are incredible and some make you realize maybe you are a better artist than you thought.
Both perspectives in the book make me want to try my hand at another painting.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Technique   May 13, 2008
If you are looking for a Splash edition that has a smattering of everything; this is the one. Cats up close, pears in a still life, cows, street scenes. This is the fifth in a series of watercolor books that feature various artists and their work.

With this book you get beautiful color photos of the art along with a little bit about the piece followed by "technique" which tells you what they did to achieve the particular look. For example: "I use Golden fluid acrylics mixed with whatever is nearby, such as pastel, ink, crayon, alcohol, etc. After blocking out what I want to save with frisket, I splash color on with a wide brush."

As always with the Splash books, this too is inspiring, but I especially like the technique explained in this one.

5 out of 5 stars Magical Texture   May 13, 2008
The cover art alone for Splash 6 is worth the price of the book! Paul W. McCormack's work is phenomenal. I stared forever at the velvet dress he paints. This book is definitely about texture.

This Splash edition has more portrait painting than some of the others and the artists are good!

It also has a fair amount of architectural painting.

This is my favorite Splash for its outstanding paintings.

Rachel Rubin Wolf does a nice job of editing the work for her books.

3 out of 5 stars Very American   January 3, 2007

So many almost photographic pictures of shiny objects, fruits, flowers and too few real "Discoveries" I look forward to each new "Splash",but this one seemed just more of the same. The pictures using fluid inks and a looser style are fun, but please thinks of us non-Americans when you use brand names of materials like "Yupo"plastic paper
