The book is excellent as far as illustrations and demonstrations on texture techniques.Many books explain briefly how to do techniques but you don't get the whole picture. Joye really explains and shows you how she does things. Great for the experienced as well as beginner painter.

Beginner or experienced painter, this is a book to wake up your creativity and get it moving. Techniques are presented in a logical step-by-step method. It is clearly written and profusely illustrated. Common items, such as gauze and plastic wrap, as well as unusual ones, Unryu and waxed paper are used to create exciting textures in watercolor paintings. Adding interest to the book are quotes, travel stories and other fun sidebars. Joye's enthusiasm for art and teaching is evident on every page.

As a beginner, I was able to follow the ideas and techniques with ease! I love the practical way the book is put together! So many tips and hints for those of us who are aspiring artists, without years of theory behind us! I just love the step-by-step process with lots of colored pictures to support the directions. You can tell that Joye is a true teacher, who keeps even the beginner in mind as she instructs. Truly an awesome "hands on" method book with many different ways to succeed at watercolor techniques!
